Charged For an Assault
On July 24th, 2018, Himchan was reported to have sexually assaulted a woman in her 20s, in Namyangju. The victim revealed that there were three guys and three girls who hung out together, and one of them was Himchan’s alleged victim. Himchan was investigated by the police for allegedly assaulting a woman in her twenties (hereafter referred to as “A”) at a guest house in Namyangju with other people. According to “A,” there had been three men and three women—including herself and Himchan—drinking together at the house at the time of the incident. Himchan denied all accusations from the very beginning, claiming that it was a mutual interaction between two people with feelings for each other. Meanwhile, the victim insisted that she was assaulted by force. Following investigations, Himchan had his first court trial on July 12th.
Himchan Edited Out of a Reality Show
Since the case of Himchan’s alleged sexual assault has been sent to the Uijeongbu District Prosecutor’s Office, and since the controversy has surfaced, some of Himchan’s activities have been put on hold for a while, pending the results of the investigation. The group’s upcoming reality show B.A.P’s Traince released an official statement regarding its programming. The show announced that Himchan will be edited out of the show. A source from FashionN said, “We plan on editing out Himchan’s broadcast portions from B.A.P’s group reality program B.A.P’s Traince for the episodes airing on October 9th and October 16th.” The source continued, “Since the show is two episodes long, Himchan will not be shown in the broadcasts.” B.A.P’s Traince, which was scheduled to premiere on September 12th, is a variety show featuring the six B.A.P members working together to create a virtual reality (VR) game for their fans. Because the show was filmed prior to leader Bang Yong Guk’s departure in August, B.A.P’s Traince will provide fans with a final glimpse of all six members living together.
Himchan Didn’t Renew His Contract with TS Entertainment
On February 18th, the agency shared the news on B.A.P’s official fan cafe with a post titled, “Official statement regarding the future activities of B.A.P.” Their statement reads as follows: “Hello, this is TS Entertainment. We are letting you know that our exclusive contracts with Himchan, Daehyun, Youngjae, and Jongup are over. The B.A.P members’ exclusive contracts with TS Entertainment ended, and we came to an agreement together to go our separate ways. We sincerely thank domestic and international fans who have shown much love to Himchan, Daehyun, Youngjae, and Jongup, and ask for your continued support. Thank you.” With this announcement, all six members of B.A.P have now parted ways with TS Entertainment after deciding to not renew their contracts. The members had contracts that ended on different dates, leading to a staggered departure from the agency. The other two members, Bang Yong Guk and Zelo, had already left the label, this means that all six B.A.P members are no longer with their original label.
Himchan’s First Trial
On July 12th, former B.A.P member Himchan had his first court trial after he was indicted without detention by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office. The 29-year-old idol was indicted on charges of an indecent act by compulsion in April 2019. Himchan’s legal counsel officially denied all allegations of the charges mentioned during the trial and pleaded not guilty. Himchan’s lawyer made the following statement regarding the incident to the Seoul Central District Court, “There were feelings of interest between the two. It wasn’t explicit consent, but there was implied consent, which is why it is not an indecent act by compulsion. It’s clear that there were feelings of interest between them. We acknowledge the truth of the kissing and the touching of [her] chest, but there was no other physical contact beyond that.” A second hearing for the ongoing case is scheduled to take place on August 16th. This second hearing will also involve witness testimonies.
