Sakkari was born on 25 July 1995 to mother Angelikí Kanellopoúlou who is former top-50 tennis player and father Konstantinos Sakkaris, in the capital of Greece, Athens. She has two siblings: brother Yannis and sister Amanda. She was introduced by her parents to tennis at age 6 and moved to Barcelona at age 18 in order to train. She has said that her favorite surfaces are hard and clay and that her favorite shot is the serve. Growing up, her favourite players were Serena Williams, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Sakkari currently resides in Monte Carlo. Coached by Tom Hill Parents are Konstantinos and Angeliki; brother is Yannis (studies at Boston University) and sister is Amanda. Born and grew up in Athens, Sakkari moved to Barcelona aged 18 and trained there for two years. Her mother, Angeliki Kanellopoulou, was a tennis player too, however xhd didn’t start because of her. Sakkari made her debut on ITF Circuit in 2010 at $10k ITF/Mytilino‐GRE and played her first WTA tournament in 2012, in Palermo, losing in the qualifying second round. Until 2015 she failed to qualify four times at WTA level before making his Grand Slam debut at Us Open. She opened 2016 by falling in qualifying at Brisbane and Hobart, then she posted her first Grand Slam main draw win beating Wang. She became the first woman from Greece to win a main draw match at a Slam since Daniilidou d. Karolina Pliskova at 2013 Australian Open. In 2016 she reached the first career WTA quarterfinal in Istanbul after qualifying to enter main draw (l. Kovinic). She made 2r at Wimbledon and after the Championships she collected a single main draw win inTashkent (d. Schmiedlova, l. Flipkens). She also played main draw again at 2016 Gstaad (l. Kontaveit in 1r), New Haven (as qualifier. L. Rodina 1r), Tokyo [Japan Open] (l. Putintseva), Seoul (l. S.Zhang) and Hong Kong (l. World No.1 Kerber) 2017 was her breakthrough season. She reached the third round at three of the four majors, at Australian Open (l. Lucic‐Baroni), Wimbledon (l. Konta) and US Open (l. V.Williams). She enjoyed good results on grass in 2017, reaching QFs at Nottingham (l. eventual champion Vekic). In Wuhan, she made her first WTA semifinal beating Caroline Wozniacki. It was her first win over a top 25 opponent, the biggest victory for a Greek tennis player since August 2005 when Eleni Daniilidou beat then number four Svetlana Kuznetsova in Los Angeles. Sakkari finished the season at No.51 and became the third highest-ranked Greek player of all-time, behind her mother Angeliki Kanellopoulou (former number 43) and Eleni Daniilidou (former number 14).
