Meghan Markle 10 Fast Facts, Biography, Wiki
Markle and American film producer Trevor Engelson began dating in 2004. They were married in Ocho Rios, Jamaica on September 10, 2011[39] and concluded a no-fault divorce in August 2013, citing irreconcilable differences. Markle’s subsequent relationship with Canadian celebrity chef and restaurateur Cory Vitiello ended in July 2016 after almost two years. In June 2016, Markle began a relationship with Prince Harry, a grandson of Queen Elizabeth II. In November, the prince directed his communications secretary to release a statement on his behalf to express personal concern about pejorative and false comments made about his girlfriend by mainstream media and internet trolls. In September 2017, Markle and Prince Harry first appeared together in public in Toronto at the Invictus Games, of which Harry is patron. Meghan Markle’s engagement to Prince Harry was announced on November 27, 2017 by Harry’s father Charles, Prince of Wales. The announcement prompted generally positive comments about having a mixed-race person as a member of the royal family, especially in regard to Commonwealth countries with populations of blended or native ancestry. Markle announced that she would retire from acting, and began the lengthy process of becoming a British citizen, which is subject to strict immigration rules about living outside of the UK for more than 90 days. In preparation for the wedding, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, baptized Markle and confirmed her into the Church of England on March 6, 2018. The private ceremony, performed with water from the River Jordan, took place in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace. The marriage ceremony was held on May 19 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, with a private exchange of vows on May 16 with the Archbishop of Canterbury. The earlier exchange of vows was not an official religious or legally recognised marriage. It was reportedly agreed in advance that excess funds generated from the BBC broadcast of the wedding ceremony would go to a charity chosen by the newlywed couple. In April 2020, Feeding Britain (which provides food packages to families in food poverty) was nominated to receive £90,000 from the BBC. After the wedding, the Duke and Duchess lived at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace in London. They later moved to Frogmore Cottage in the Home Park of Windsor Castle. Meghan gave birth to a son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6, 2019. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s office moved to Buckingham Palace and officially closed on March 31, 2020 when the Sussexes ceased undertaking official engagements. After some months in Canada and the United States, the couple bought a house in June 2020 on the former estate of Riven Rock in Montecito, California. The next month, Meghan suffered a miscarriage. On February 14, 2021, it was announced that Meghan was pregnant again. In the interview Oprah with Meghan and Harry, Meghan announced that they will be having a daughter. Following reports of her involvement with Prince Harry in 2016, Meghan Markle became Google’s most searched actress that year. Meghan Markle is close friends with Serena Williams, Jessica Mulroney, Priyanka Chopra and Mubina Rattonsey. In 2016, the Time magazine included her in its list of “100 Most Influential People in the World”. MEGHAN SAYS SHE FACED RACISM Meghan, who is biracial, said before the couple had their son Archie, there had been “concerns and conversations” between Harry and the family “about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.” Harry confirmed there was a conversation about “what will the kids look like.” He said he would never reveal who was involved, but Winfrey said he told her it was not his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Meghan also said she was treated differently by the British media compared to Prince William’s wife Catherine, who was also followed closely by the press and even dubbed “Waity Katie” on account of the couple’s long courtship. “While I imagine that was really hard — and I do, I can’t picture what that felt like — this is not the same,” Meghan said. “And if a member of his family would comfortably say ‘We’ve all had to deal with things that are rude’ — rude and racist are not the same.” MEGHAN SAYS SHE HAD SUICIDAL THOUGHTS Meghan said her isolation and unhappiness inside the royal family grew so bad that “I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.” “And that was a very clear, and real, and frightening, constant thought,” she said. So she said she sought help from the palace’s human resources department, but did not receive it. “I went to the institution and I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help. I said that I’ve never felt this way before and I need to go somewhere,” she said. “And I was told that I couldn’t, that it wouldn’t be good for the institution.” HARRY SAYS HE WAS TRAPPED Harry said that, through his relationship with Meghan, he realized that he and his family were all trapped inside an oppressive system. “I was trapped but I didn’t know I was trapped,” he said. “My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don’t get to leave.” He also claimed there was a toxic relationship between the royals and the media and that Britain’s royal family was afraid of the tabloid press “turning on them.” “There is a level of control by fear that has existed for generations,” he said. HARRY HAS A FRACTURED RELATIONSIP WITH HIS FATHER AND BROTHER Harry revealed a breakdown in his relations with his father Prince Charles, who is heir to the British throne, and elder brother Prince William, the second in line. He said at one point Charles stopped taking his calls, and there was still “a lot to work through” in their relationship. “I will always love him. But there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened and I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship,” Harry said. He said he and William had “been through hell together, we have a shared experience, but we were on different paths.” HARRY AND MEGHAN HAD TWO WEDDING CEREMONIES The couple’s lavish May 2018 wedding at Windsor Castle was a grand ceremonial affair, watched by millions around the world. But Meghan revealed she and Harry had already exchanged vows in private three days earlier in the presence of Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, head of the Anglican church. “We called the archbishop and we just said, look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world, but we want our union between us,” she said. “So the vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the archbishop of Canterbury.” “Just the three of us,” Harry added.
